The nation waited so patiently for Rihanna to finally release another album. When she released her newest album ‘Anti’ I was over the moon, just like everyone else. We all caught a glimpse of what was to come when Rihanna dropped her single ‘Work’ ft Drake. This was a song that was constantly on repeat during my senior year of high school in 2016, a song that makes you want to get up and dance. 

Many people didn’t consider Rihanna as much of a vocal artist. To me, this album shows she really stopped giving a crap. This album is Rihanna proving that anyone who critiqued her vocally should reevaluate her talents. 

There’s a really relaxing, chilled vibe to the album, unlike anything Rihanna has produced in the past, such as Rated R. There are no funky beats, no hit club tracks, but that doesn’t mean you couldn’t dance along to the Dancehall beats of “Work”. When I think of Rihanna’s inspiration or setting while creating this album, I picture her Instagram feed at the time, just being on the beach, smoking weed with her friends, not grinding in a club or having her usual sex appeal towards men. 

Anti opens with the song  “Consideration” ft Sza, which has a low bass beat and Dancehall rhythms. It features interludes such as “Yeah, I Said It” and “James Joint” which are personally some of my favorites off of the impeccable album.

 ANTI was certified platinum in just 24 hours after release, and it’s easy to see why. Rihanna’s best work since the 4 years without a single is on display here. Unapologetic, her previous album, had energized electronic tones and was obviously her attempt to remain active in the all changing music scene but with Anti, it’s a different vibe than fans expected. ANTI creates a new connection, and it’s clear from her music and voice that she’s excited about the new music she’s created.
